Privacy Policy for Klar
Last updated: 5 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information the Klar app (“Klar”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and what choices you have. Klar is a voice-driven language-learning app. On the App Store the app is listed as “Klar Speak”.
If you have any questions, contact us at support@klarspeak.com.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Klar is provided by Ali Taqizadeh Gevari (the “data controller” under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, “GDPR”).
Contact: support@klarspeak.com
2. What we collect, why, and the legal basis
We only collect data to provide and improve the app. We never collect more than we need for the purpose described.
| Data | What it is | Why | GDPR basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address | The address you sign up with (or from Google / Apple sign-in) | Create and secure your account; sign in; verification / password-reset emails | Contract |
| Name | The display name you choose (or from Google / Apple) | Personalize the app | Contract |
| Voice (audio) | Your speech while you practice | Streamed in real time to our AI provider to generate the tutor’s responses | Contract |
| Your saved content | The words and definitions you add | Store your notebook so it’s there when you return | Contract |
| Account & device identifiers | A Firebase user ID, and an app-instance ID used by analytics | Tie data to your account; group analytics events | Contract / consent |
| Usage / product-interaction data | Anonymous events (launches, session start/finish, features used) | Understand usage so we can improve the app | Consent — opt-in |
| Diagnostics | Crash logs and non-fatal error reports (no message content) | Find and fix bugs and crashes | Legitimate interests |
| Purchase data | Your subscription / plan status | Provide and manage your Klar Pro subscription | Contract |
We do not collect: your contacts, your photos, your precise or coarse location, payment-card details (Apple handles payments — we never see your card), or any “sensitive” categories of data.
3. Analytics is optional and consent-based
We use analytics only if you agree. On first launch we ask whether you want to share anonymous usage data. Nothing is collected until you tap “Allow.”
You can change your mind at any time: open your Profile → “Usage analytics” and turn it off. We can also disable analytics collection remotely for everyone.
Analytics data is not used for advertising and contains no personal content (no words, no voice, no email, no name) — only counts, durations, and feature identifiers, associated with your account ID.
4. Who processes your data (third parties)
We use a small number of trusted service providers (“processors”) to run the app:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Google Analytics for Firebase, Crashlytics, Cloud Functions) — accounts, saved content, analytics, crash reporting, and backend logic. See Google’s Privacy Policy and Firebase data handling.
- OpenAI — your voice is streamed to OpenAI’s Realtime API to generate the tutor’s responses. We do not store your voice recordings ourselves; OpenAI processes them under its own policies and may retain them transiently for safety/abuse monitoring. See OpenAI’s Privacy Policy.
- Apple — processes your subscription purchases (In-App Purchase). We never receive your payment-card information. See Apple’s Privacy Policy.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertising networks.
5. International data transfers
Our providers (Google, OpenAI, Apple) may process data on servers in the United States and other countries outside the European Economic Area. Where data is transferred outside the EEA, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. How long we keep your data
- Account data and saved content — for as long as you keep your account.
- Analytics data — retained for a limited period per Google Analytics’ retention settings, then aggregated or deleted.
- Crash diagnostics — retained by Crashlytics for a limited period (typically up to 90 days).
- Voice — not stored by us; handled in real time (see §4).
When you delete your account, we delete your account data and saved content.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR (and similar laws), you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, withdraw analytics consent at any time (Profile → Usage analytics), receive your data in a portable format, and lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@klarspeak.com. You can also request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
8. Children’s privacy
Klar is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We rely on industry-standard security from our providers (encryption in transit, access controls, and authenticated backend access). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
